The Enthroned King

Yesterday the news broke that Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands will be abdicating or turning her throne over to her son. It got me wondering about the Queen of England, Elizabeth II, and when/if she will ever turn the throne over to her son Prince Charles.

When I ponder royalty turning over the throne, I wonder if they have an exit strategy. No one can be king for forever. Right? Every king or queen is only temporary. The changes, no matter how long you hang on, are inevitable.

I stumbled across this verse this morning and wanted to pass it on. It’s from Psalm 29:10 (NRSV).

The Lord sits enthroned over the flood;
the Lord sits enthroned as king forever.

Earthly kings may and will come and go, but the God we serve will be with us forever. There is never a transition time. There is never a moment when we are alone. Our Heavenly Father is always with us. He is always on the throne.
