Youth Week Recap 2010

July 29, 2010

Youth week world view has come and gone. It blew my mind to see all that God did. It was a difficult week for me emotionally, spiritually, and mentally.

I lost my Grandpa this past week and got to attend his funeral in the midst of all the busyness. He was a great man and I am so thankful I got to say good bye to him and spend time with my family. I could rest easy that everything would get done because we have the GREATEST staff ever! Big shout out to Greg Manz and Justin Peay.

God did so much this past week, the biggest was we had 23 lives dedicated to Christ! It was a very special time that I won’t be soon to forget.

Now the planning starts for youth week 2011.

So today was an awesome day spent at NewSpring Church. One of my great friends, Dorsia Atkinson, is in the NewSpring church’s pastor’s (Perry Noble) coaching network. NewSpring church. They allowed us to sit in on their staff meeting which was awesome.

Also I would be leaving out one of the best details out of the way if I didn’t mention Julie Keith. She was our personal host for the day. She went way above and beyond helping us out. I can honestly say I experienced radical hospitality today.

Here our some quick hits on the day.

  • Vision Leaks – Perry Spent most of the staff meeting talking vision not logistics. It was inspiring and motivating!
  • Love your pastor – You don’t have to agree 100%, but loving and supporting your pastor will allow you to go further faster
  • To work @ NewSpring you have to be tall…really they are all like 7ft tall.
  • Pastor’s should only preach six weeks in a row, “after that you start to sound like a jerk” plus it good to give your pastor some rest.
  • NewSpring is like a huge playground for Christians – You get to hang out and serve with cool people, but most importantly be Jesus to people.

It was great to be around great people.

am i listening?

I love my major. Learning in Communication Arts allows us to learn to think critically and then spit out our ideas of whatever the topic or situation is. It allows us to communicate to the world what we think. And so it helps us in this world we live in where we are suppose to constantly put “what we think” out there. The most popular websites are sites like twitter (you can read mine at the bottom of this page), facebook, and blogs. My question is do we ever really stop to listen? Or are we getting just enough info to fill 140 characters?

There is so much noise around. Ask yourself, am I really hearing anything through all of it? And am I only adding to it?
