Does your church have a good process for following up with visitors? For my youth group at Statesboro First United Methodist Church I hand write each student and thank them for visiting. I recently saw this video and has me thinking about pushing myself further.

This video is of Adam Hamilton, Sr. Pastor of The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection. Now he is dealing with adults instead of youth which is a big difference than students, but it got me thinking, how can we push that human connection more to communicate we care and value our visitors.

Pay Attention

September 1, 2009

Just finished reading Andy Stanley‘s the Principle of the Path. It’s a great book that I would absolutely recommend for everyone in all walks of life. Instead of giving you a summary of the book I figured I would share one of the things God showed me in a chapter. It’s chapter nine called Attention Retention. Here is the main quote I want to talk about.

“Over and over, God reminds us that the things to which we harness our attention direct our lives; whatever captures our attention will determine our destination.”

The principle here is that when we pay attention we are actually paying something and getting something of value back. The flip side is our attention can be captured by something and that can also be something we have to pay for.
